PROJECT:
South Quay Plaza, Docklands

The Challenge

Previously damaged by terrorist attack in 1988, South Quay Plaza is situated opposite South Quay DLR station. We undertook a design and build solution to remodel the basement car park, ground and mezzanine floors to create a new retail food space, commuter facilities, new plant rooms, new basement car park entrance, security and CCTV studios and other support spaces.

All of these works were undertaken whilst the building was fully occupied.

The Solution

As principal contractor we delivered a 40-week programme that included design, specification and installation and integration of new critical services including 2x high voltage transformers.

At a critical stage during construction, the nominated HV transformer supplier caused significant delivery delays; we proactively found robust remedial solutions, by specifying and installing alternative temporary HV transformers to maintain project critical path and mitigated impact to existing occupiers.

The Outcome

  • Proactive remedial support
  • Cost impact containment
  • Operations maintained throughout this 30-storey building
  • No adverse impact or downtime to existing occupiers
